Celebrating Earth Hour March 26: 60 Minutes To Reflect on the Future of Our Planet

On March 26 at 8:30 pm, supporters of environmental change will get together in solidarity for Earth Hour to take a stand for our planet. For one short hour, we’ll turn off the lights to take action and raise awareness of environmental issues affecting our shared home.

Earth Hour means so much more than an hour of darkness. It’s a mass movement that demonstrates our desire to transform our planet for the benefit of all living beings.

Earth Hour is a Catalyst For Change

Turning off the lights gives us the opportunity to reflect in silence about the massive changes taking place in our world today.

We are in the midst of rapid transformation. Wars, economic hardship, chemical pollution, garbage, hunger, disease, and political corruption threaten the delicate balance we have with nature.

Our natural environment is life-sustaining, nurturing, and giving. As humans, we are privileged to have the ability to make choices that promote sustainability. Earth Hour gives us a quiet time to consider how our actions - no matter how small - can make a significant impact.

Take the First Step Towards Sustainability

With so many life-changing events happening at once, life has become overwhelming for many of us. As a result, anxious feelings and uncertainty can take over, making us feel like there is nothing we can do.

Nothing is further from the truth.

All great journeys start with the first step, and taking that initial step starts the rewarding path of transformation. As we go further, the view gets better because we can see where we came from, and where we need to go.

At Radiance Energy, we think of the journey towards sustainability as a series of steps. Here are some actions we believe make a big difference:

Celebrating Earth Hour March 26: 60 Minutes To Reflect on the Future of Our Planet

1. Invest in carbon offsets

Companies, governments, or other entities typically have a cap on their carbon dioxide output. Businesses that exceed this quota are permitted to buy carbon offsets from other companies to increase the amount of carbon dioxide they are allowed to emit per year.

Carbon offsets are measured in tonnes of carbon dioxide-equivalent (CO2e). Under the program, one ton of carbon offset represents the reduction or removal of one ton of carbon dioxide or its equivalent in other greenhouse gases. Marketplaces that engage in carbon offset trading include Cool Effect, Terrapass, South Pole, Native Energy, and COTAP.org.

2. Use sustainable office supplies and cleaning products

Waste is a significant problem that threatens ecosystems across the world. Purchasing sustainable supplies such as recycled paper and biodegradable cleaning products reduce garbage while decreasing the burden on our landfills. In addition, buying sustainable products contributes to the circular economy and supports eco-friendly businesses that take positive action to benefit our environment.

3. Offer employees remote work options

The last two years have proven that fully digital workplaces are a realistic alternative to traditional offices that require employee attendance five days per week.

Besides helping employees achieve better work-life balance, remote work options take cars off the road, reduce CO2, and decrease overall dependence on petroleum. Employers also save money on office space and supplies, making digital workplace options a win-win arrangement for everyone!

4. Encourage public transit with subsidized transit passes

In addition to offering remote work options, providing subsidized transit passes is another positive step businesses can take to support the environment.

Mass use of public transportation and ride-sharing is one of the best ways to reduce our overall carbon footprint. Some businesses offer direct benefits via their HR department, while others partner with government transit agencies to provide employees with passes at a significant discount.

5. Switch to LED lighting

Radiance Energy is a supplier and installer of LED lighting systems - so it’s no surprise that we encourage commercial businesses and residential buildings to switch to LEDs!

Traditional lighting systems like fluorescent lighting simply don’t measure up to the durability and cost savings of LEDs. Our systems can save you up to 90% in electricity costs and pay for themselves faster than you think!

On top of that, LEDs are customizable with dimming and color temperature options that light up any commercial, residential, or industrial space in a beautiful and sustainable way.

The Planet Needs Our Support!

We’re proud to promote responsible environmental action at Radiance Energy. The small steps we take towards sustainability lead to massive changes that benefit everyone.

There has never been a better time to make the switch to LEDs. Lower electricity costs, increased property values, and a reduced carbon footprint are just some of the benefits - all with no money down and payment programs that cover the cost of your installation in 3-7 years.

Our experts are here to help you plan a more sustainable future. Schedule a complimentary audit today to discover how LEDs can transform your space for a brighter, cleaner, and greener future.
